The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan, the Astana Civil Service Hub (ACSH), and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea held a high-level meeting in Astana to strengthen and expand cooperation on digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector.
Opening the meeting, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Katarzyna Wawiernia, noted that the partnership with NIA closely aligns with UNDP's strategic priorities on digital transformation and the promotion of human-centred, inclusive, and ethical AI. She also noted that the joint interregional initiative, which has expanded from seven to twelve countries, is making a significant contribution to international knowledge exchange and the sharing of expertise in digital transformation and digital government.
In his remarks, President of the NIA Hyung Chul Kim reaffirmed NIA’s commitment to expanding international cooperation on AI through knowledge sharing, joint initiatives, and the Global AI Hub. He emphasized that future cooperation should be built on practical partnerships that promote mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and the responsible use of AI.
Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the ACSH, Alikhan Baimenov, underscored the value of the long-standing partnership with the Republic of Korea. He noted that the ACSH could serve as a platform for piloting innovative AI approaches, tools, and modalities in the fields of AI and digital transformation, complementing the Global AI Hub initiative.
Building on their partnership established in 2021, UNDP, the ACSH, the MOIS, and the NIA are jointly implementing an interregional capacity development initiative aimed at advancing digital government and promoting innovation in public service delivery across Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Asia-Pacific region. Through conferences, study visits, workshops, and knowledge products, the initiative promotes peer learning, strengthens the digital capacities of civil servants, and supports innovation in public governance.
The meeting reaffirmed the partners' shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation in support of inclusive digital transformation, responsible AI governance, and resilient public institutions, and expressed their readiness to expand interregional knowledge exchange and advance innovation.
