Madrid/New York — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Spain have signed a Host Country Agreement paving the way for a new UNDP presence in Madrid.
Under the agreement, Spain will host around 100 UNDP employees in Madrid, marking an important step in strengthening partnerships, expanding collaboration and advancing sustainable development.
From Madrid, UNDP will support the work of countries to mobilize and align public and private finance, advance integrated development solutions, and translate global agreements, including the Sevilla Commitment, a global framework aimed at closing the US$4 trillion annual financing gap for the Sustainable Development Goals, into action.
“We are grateful to the Government of Spain for its strong support and for welcoming UNDP to Madrid,” said Alexander De Croo, UNDP Administrator. “This agreement reflects Spain’s leadership in strengthening multilateral cooperation, and will support UNDP’s ongoing efforts to remain agile, effective and closer to the partners and countries we serve.”
The Madrid presence is part of a broader UNDP relocation process affecting almost 400 positions, with approximately three-quarters transferring to Bonn, Germany, and about one quarter to Madrid, Spain. New York City continues to remain UNDP’s global headquarters.
UNDP operates in 170 countries and territories with a workforce of approximately 22,000 people, the vast majority of whom serve in country offices and regional hubs.
