Agreement announced at Venice Climate Week in the presence of Italy's Minister of Environment and Energy Security
UNDP Rome Centre and Deloitte Sign Collaboration Agreement to Channel Private Finance into Climate and Energy Action
June 8, 2026
Venice, 5 June 2026 - UNDP Rome Centre for Climate Action and Energy Transition and Deloitte Climate and Sustainability signed a collaboration agreement today in Venice, in the presence of Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE). The agreement establishes a framework for joint work to attract private investment into climate and clean energy initiatives in emerging markets and developing countries.
The partnership is built around a shared recognition that public finance alone cannot close the investment gap needed for the energy transition in the countries where Rome Centre works. By combining UNDP Rome Centre's on-the-ground presence across many countries and its portfolio of investment-readiness programmes with Deloitte's private sector networks and sustainability expertise, the two organizations aim to build more direct pathways between private capital and development-focused climate projects.
Under the agreement, Rome Centre and Deloitte will work together to organize investor engagement events and roundtables, develop joint research and analysis on climate finance and sustainable energy, support capacity-building and thought leadership activities, and facilitate dialogue across the public sector, business, and international institutions. The collaboration will also support multilateral events and help connect private partners to Rome Centre's core programmes, including PISTA, Energy for Growth in Africa, Youth4Climate, the Adaptation Accelerator Hub, and the AI Hub for Sustainable Development.
"The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security welcomes this collaboration between UNDP Rome Centre and Deloitte. It is a concrete example of how Italy's system of institutions, businesses, and international organizations can work together to accelerate the energy transition. Our country has both the capacity and the responsibility to share expertise, technology, and partnership models with emerging markets and developing countries. Initiatives like this one show that Italy, together with its partners, can be an international reference point in climate finance," said Hon. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Italy's Minister of Environment and Energy Security.
"With this collaboration, UNDP Rome Centre and Deloitte reaffirm the value of public-private partnerships as an essential lever for accelerating the transition toward more resilient growth models. Only through closer cooperation between institutions and the private sector will it be possible to address the climate challenge effectively and build a more sustainable future," said Paolo D'Aprile, Sustainability Leader at Deloitte Central Mediterranean.
"Through Rome Centre, UNDP promotes integrated approaches to climate and energy challenges through strategic programmes and private sector engagement. This collaboration with Deloitte Climate and Sustainability will contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7 on affordable and clean energy, SDG 13 on climate action, and SDG 17 on partnerships for the goals," said Agostino Inguscio, Coordinator of the UNDP Rome Centre and UNDP Representative in Italy.
