On March 12, Aram Ghazaryan, Director of the Rescue Service and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, received the delegation headed by Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia.
Aram Ghazaryan highly valued the bilateral cooperation, which plays an important role in developing the disaster risk management system and strengthening capacities. Referring to the directions of expanding the partnership, the Director of the Rescue Service presented the results of jointly implemented projects.
The parties discussed issues related to the development of professional capacities of rescue service personnel, the re-equipment of firefighting and rescue units, strengthening cooperation in the field of disaster risk management, modernization of early warning systems, and improvement of the legislative framework.
In her remarks, Natia Natsvlishvili, the head of the delegation, noted that disaster risk management is one of UNDP's key areas of work, within which the organization closely cooperates with the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
She highlighted that, as a result of joint efforts, a number of projects aimed at developing community capacities have been implemented: around 300 communities have been involved in initiatives to strengthen disaster resilience.
The parties expressed willingness to continue cooperation toward further developing the disaster risk management system.
