Our impact

UNDP Chemicals and Waste Hub works with countries and communities to address pollution from chemicals, plastics and waste, while enabling safer, cleaner and more resource-efficient economies. Our support ranges from policy reform and governance strengthening to investment in infrastructure and technologies that prevent pollution at its source. The impact is visible in better human health, lower emissions, cleaner environments, and new opportunities for green and inclusive growth.

RESULTS

Across more than XXX countries, UNDP has helped phase out toxic chemicals, improve waste and plastic management, decarbonize cooling and energy systems, and advance circular business models. Projects have resulted in safer handling and disposal of hazardous waste, reduced emissions of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), mercury and methane, expanded recycling and recovery capacity, greener jobs, and stronger governance frameworks aligned with global conventions and national climate and development targets.

PUBLICATIONS AND REPORTS

Our publications and reports capture what we learn in the field and translate it into practical guidance. They include assessments, policy briefs, feasibility studies, technical guidelines, and global analyses that support better decisions on chemicals and waste management, plastic pollution, circularity and sustainable cooling.

BLOGS AND STORIES

We document real-world change through first-person stories from cities, innovators, farmers, waste workers, health facilities and enterprises shifting away from hazardous chemicals, plastics and linear waste practices. These narratives show the human impact: safer workplaces, cleaner rivers and soils, reduced open burning, new green livelihoods, and healthier communities — especially women, children and informal workers.
