Our team
UNDP Chemicals and Waste Hub is a global network of partners supporting the implementation of international conventions on chemicals and waste management. Our work aims to reduce pollution across value chains and accelerate the transition toward sustainable production, consumption, and a circular economy.
UNDP supports initiatives in over 120 countries to protect human health, biodiversity, the ozone layer, and the climate. These efforts include the phase-out of hundreds of hazardous chemicals—such as highly toxic pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mercury, ozone-depleting substances, and refrigerants with high global warming potential—from industrial processes and consumer products.
We also help countries improve waste management systems and address plastic pollution. Through strong partnerships, we promote universal access to sustainable cooling solutions and enhanced energy efficiency.
Our team combines strong technical expertise and a commitment to advancing sustainable development. With backgrounds in environmental science, chemistry, public policy, and international development, we support countries in navigating complex regulatory frameworks, designing impactful projects, and scaling innovative solutions.
We work in close collaboration with UNDP country offices, governments, the private sector, civil society, and international partners to deliver impact and build long-term capacity for chemicals and waste management.
UNDP Chemicals and Waste Hub is led by Director Xiaofang Zhou and supported by a multidisciplinary team of experts, policy advisors, scientists, and project managers working across global, regional, and national levels.
