Ukrainian humanitarian demining innovations exhibited at Security 2.0 forum
October 17, 2025
Kyiv, 30 September 2025 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine supported the "Security 2.0: Humanitarian Demining" forum and exhibition. This event, which took place on 30 September in Kyiv Oblast, showcased innovative demining solutions currently being used by mine action specialists across Ukraine.
The forum brought together key industry players and featured thematic presentations from ministries, private enterprises, and NGOs. The discussions highlighted the critical importance of developing new approaches to clearing land of explosive remnants of war.
A significant part of the forum focused on discussions around funding for humanitarian demining and compensation for affected sectors of the economy. This was particularly relevant to the agricultural market in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts.
The event also provided an opportunity for Ukrainian operators to showcase their achievements. Among the technologies presented were survey and mine-clearing drones, robotic systems, mine detection devices and informational services.
Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, highlighted the progress of Ukrainian-produced innovations. “We see how Ukrainian technologies are accelerating the demining process — making it cheaper and more efficient. Moreover, when we promote the “Made in Ukraine” approach, it contributes not only to mine action but also to strengthening the national economy. I am confident that domestic innovations will be in demand worldwide, as they reflect the unique expertise currently being developed in Ukraine”.
Oleksandr Lobov, UNDP Mine Action Specialist in Ukraine, added that Ukraine is steadily emerging as a leader in applying modern technologies and methods in humanitarian demining. “Systematic cooperation between leading UN mine action agencies, international partners, and Ukrainian innovative companies creates an effective model that combines international experience and in-country expertise,” he said. “Ukraine is gradually becoming a leader in implementing modern technologies and methods of humanitarian demining that make explosive ordnance clearance and survey safer and more effective.”
According to the Government of Ukraine, 23% of the country’s territory (approximately 139,000 square kilometres) is currently potentially contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war. In September 2023, this figure stood at 30%.
