Council of Ministers of Curaçao Welcomes UN Delegation
WILLEMSTAD – From 19 to 21 May, a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mr. Ugo Blanco, the UNDP Resident Representative for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Trinidad & Tobago, visited Curaçao in the context of implementing the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These goals focus on areas such as poverty reduction, education, healthcare, energy, employment and economy, equality, production and consumption, climate change, and more.
The aim is for all UN member states to achieve these goals by 2030. As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Curaçao is also committed to implementing this project, coordinated by Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas. At the request of the Government of Curaçao, the UNDP conducted an analysis of the country’s progress in implementing the SDGs and presented the findings to the relevant ministries.
At the conclusion of the visit on 21 May, the UNDP delegation which included Ms. Isele Robinson-Cooper, Head of Inclusive Growth and Social Policy, and Mr. Javier Bronfman, Senior SDG Advisor met with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and the Council of Ministers. During the meeting, Mr. Blanco stated that based on the analysis, the UNDP concludes that Curaçao is making good progress in implementing the goals. The UNDP even believes that Curaçao could serve as a model for other countries in the region in terms of SDG implementation. It was also agreed that Curaçao will make use of UNDP support to revise its National Development Plan, aligning it with the SDGs and the policy agenda of the Pisas III Cabinet.
