Description of investment

The investment encompasses the following:

• Replacement of fencing for two sport fields (basketball/volleyball court and football pitch);
• Installation of new fence on new sport court;
• Installation of floor tiles on two basketball/volleyball courts; and
• Supply of sport equipment.

Direct beneficiaries: young persons in Famagusta

Indirect beneficiaries: the local community of Famagusta 

Scope of works

During the tragic 2023 earthquake in Türkiye, a team of volleyball players from Famagusta and their guides/guardians lost their lives. With the support of local organisations, it was decided to improve the sport facility where they used to train to remember them.

Actions taken by UNDP

1. Preparation of the technical specifications
   The preparation of the technical specifications for the sport equipment and floor tiles were prepared by the end of November 2023. For the fencing, the technical specifications were finalised in September 2024.

2. Procurement of goods and works
   The Request for Quotation for the sport equipment and floor tiles was conducted from January 2024 until May 2024.  
   
   The Request for Quotation for the fencing works was conducted from October until January 2024.

3. Implementation
   All the items contracted under this project were completed by mid-February 2025, except for the fencing around the football pitch. The fencing around the football pitch was completed at the beginning of September 2025.
