Indirect beneficiaries: all citizens of Nicosia

Scope of works

The Nicosia sewerage Trunk E was built in 1986 using asbestos pipes. It was a bi-communal project. Since then and after more than 30 years of operation, the original asbestos sections of the network are in a critical state with sections collapsing. In order not to block wastewater flow and risk overflow, the collapsed network is temporarily replaced by an open ditch which entails environmental, health and safety risks.

In 2000, a 2 km section of the Trunk E was replaced due to the deterioration of the pipes. The Sewerage Board of Nicosia (SBN), responsible for the sections located in the southern parts of the city, completed the rehabilitation of a 1 km section in Nicosia in 2023. In total, 4,200 meters of pipes need to be replaced.

The implementation of the project benefits both communities.
