Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Launches Website

On Monday 17th July 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation launched its website (https://mofaic.gov.ss/) and Diplomatic Journal for the first time since its establishment in July 20211. This was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and hosted by the Acting Minister, Hon. Deng Dau Deng Malek.  The launch was witnessed by the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon.  Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin; Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Dr. Jacob Maiju Korok, Ambassadors, Members of the Diplomatic Corp, Representatives of UN Agencies in South Sudan, Undersecretaries and Director Generals of the national Government of South Sudan, among other dignitaries.

The opening remarks at the launch were made by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Mayen Dut Wol, who talked about how the website will be a great platform to link all the stakeholders with the Ministry to access accurate and timely information about the country and the amicable bilateral and multilateral engagements. He further said that with the launch of the website, all potential investors will have easy access to the required information, laws, regulations and opportunities from a reputable source.

The Ministry was also very proud of the website because it was designed and created by an indigenous ICT company, Dynamic Consult, which has over 10 years’ experience working in South Sudan and therefore understanding the context. This achievement was regarded as an excellent opportunity provided by UNDP to support the South Sudanese youth-led company.

Dr. Samuel Doe, UNDP Resident Representative talked about how the selection process for the company was rigorous to identify the best website developer for the Ministry and ensure a quality product. He further noted, ‘’as the website is launched, the Ministry’s most valuable assets, the people, will also be well informed on the challenges of globalization and digital publicity.’’ Dr. Sam Doe also said that UNDP will ensure that Dynamic Consult continue to support the Ministry through training of the staff who will manage the website and sustain it to function professionally.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Hon. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said that the launch of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is very important for disseminating accurate information and helping the partners to know how better they can support the country. He also urged UNDP to assist the Ministry to develop the curriculum for diplomatic and protocol training in the Institute of Diplomatic Studies (IDS) and concluded by thanking the Embassies of Norway and the Netherlands for supporting the training of diplomats and all embassies in attendance for supporting the Ministry.
