The Plans of Action calls on stakeholders to pursue specific actions to advance sustainable development across Africa.
Co-organizers of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) on Monday called on stakeholders to update their progress and implementation of the Yokohama Plans of Action (YPA) through the ‘TICAD Monitor’ online platform.
As part of the outcomes of the TICAD7 Summit held in Yokohama, Japan, in August 2019, the Plans of Action identifies specific actions to be undertaken by stakeholders to advance sustainable development across Africa. These include: accelerating economic transformation and improving the business environment through innovation and private sector engagement; deepening sustainable and resilient societies; and strengthening peace and stability .
The voluntary exercise would enable the TICAD technical joint monitoring committee to effectively track progress of implementation and report on achievements made in line with the objectives of TICAD7.
Registrations started on 6 June and stakeholders have been invited to provide and update their inputs on the TICAD Monitor website until 4 July 2022.
The 2019 Yokohama Summit, which showcased several successful partnerships between African countries and Japan, saw around 10,000 representatives from African Union Member States, regional and international organizations, the private sector from Africa and Japan, parliamentarians, civil society organizations and development partners. The discussions centered on the theme of “Advancing Africa’s Development through People, Technology and Innovation”.
Led by the Government of Japan, in partnership with the UN Development Programme, the African Union Commission, the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa, and the World Bank, the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development will be hosted by the Republic of Tunisia on August 27 and 28, 2022. This will be the second TICAD Summit-level meeting to take place in Africa since Kenya hosted TICAD6 in Nairobi in August 2016.
