Open Data Hub

Belgrade, 4 February 2022 - To encourage the use of open data for the development of new services that will improve the daily lives of Serbian citizens, Open Data Hub announces a public call for innovative solutions based on data available on the Open Data Portal.

This Public Call consists of two Challenges:

  • "Open Data for Smarter Cities" Challenge is seeking smart solutions, based on the use of technology and open data, that make life easier for urban dwellers. The proposed solutions should cover (at least) one of the following areas: finance, environment, transport and mobility (parking, public transport, bicycle paths), urban planning, utilities, and energy.
  • "Open Data for the Improvement of Diabetic Health Care" Challenge aims to improve the health care for diabetics. In Serbia approximately 12% of the adult population lives with this condition. It is necessary to create solutions that will contribute to more efficient spending on diabetic health care prevention, raising awareness of this health condition and the like.

All interested parties, especially startups, associations, small and medium enterprises, and scientific research institutions, are invited to offer innovative answers to the topics of these two challenges using open data.

The proposition of the challenges is that at least one set of data from the Open Data Portal is used for the development of original ideas, while other datasets can also be used. Combining existing open data with data collected from users (crowdsourcing data collection), as well as creating or opening new databases is strongly encouraged.

Diabetes data and local government data are available on the Open Data Portal. The planned revenues and expenditures of local self-governments can be found on the "Open Budgets" platform. Also, an interactive board has been created (B1 dashboard) to make it easier for those interested to find other necessary data sets of local self-governments.

Teams that come up with the six best solutions, three for each challenge, will have the opportunity to present their ideas to the evaluation committee through short live presentations. At least two ideas, one for each challenge, will be awarded a maximum of $ 10,000 each.

The deadline for applications is February 17 until midnight, and the deadline for the development of the awarded solutions will be 30 days after signing the contract. The application should be submitted through a completed form to the address: datachallenge.rs@undp.org. More details about the challenge, as well as the application and selection process can be found here.

The Open Data Challenge, as well as the Open Data Hub was launched within the “Open Data for Sustainable Development” project, implemented by the Office of Information Technologies and eGovernment (ITE) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and supported by the Government of the United Kingdom.
