Renewed support from Japan enhances global development and human security
August 18, 2023
New York - The Government of Japan recently contributed USD 64.4 million in regular (core) resources to UNDP for 2023. UNDP thanks Japan for being a consistent top partner, providing flexible core funding at a time when it is critically needed.
The support from Japan will enhance UNDP's ability to address current and emerging challenges with speed and efficiency to reach people where the needs are greatest. The contribution is also critical in facilitating a sustainable, longer-term approach to crises and conflicts while safeguarding progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring no one is left behind.
UNDP remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Japan to tackle global challenges and working on common priority areas such as human security to ensure more comprehensive responses to global security. These include promoting peace and stabilization, conflict prevention and early recovery, democratic governance, climate action and women's empowerment. These resources will also be critical for UNDP’s ability to tackle the ripple effects of COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, using integrated and innovative development solutions that are co-created with countries.
Core resources strengthens UNDP's oversight and accountability functions as well as effective programme delivery in line with the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
