New York –The Kingdom of the Netherlands has signalled to UNDP its continued prioritization of flexible funding in support of the organizations work to help reduce multidimensional poverty, strengthen governance systems, and address climate change. The current three-year core funding agreement for EUR 100,000,000 also ensures that the Netherlands remains in line with the United Nations Secretary General’s Funding Compact, which calls for enhanced provision of flexible funding to UN agencies, predicated on strong results, reporting, transparency and accountability.

UNDP greatly appreciates the Netherlands' trust and steadfast support for core resources. This flexible form of support is critical for UNDP's efforts to advance long-term sustainable development. Core resources are also the foundation from which UNDP can proactively address and prevent environmental threats like that previously posed by the FSO Safer supertanker moored in the red Sea, implement flagship programmes such as the Climate Promise and Nature Pledge and respond to crisis such as the war in Ukraine, conflicts in South Sudan, Armenia, Niger, and elsewhere.

In addition, core contributions help to strengthen UNDP's oversight and accountability functions and ensure the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively, efficiently and in line with the highest standards of transparency. UNDP looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the Netherlands and working on shared development priorities including multi-dimensional poverty, food insecurity, climate change, conflict, and fragility.
