Stockholm – Crown Princess Victoria is formally extending her role as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She will continue her partnership with the United Nations’ leading international development agency to combat poverty and inequality, tackle crises, protect the planet and grow support for the Global Goals.

As part of her role as Goodwill Ambassador, the Crown Princess visited Bangladesh last year to showcase how UNDP's work on climate adaptation and inclusive digitalisation contributes to reducing poverty, advancing gender equality and strengthening resilience against future crises.

During her first term, the Crown Princess also pointed the spotlight on UNDP’s work in Nigeria to advance climate action and promote green innovation. Doubling down on her commitment to protect the ocean, the Crown Princess participated in the UN Ocean Conference in Nice earlier this year, where the focus was on efforts to achieve a sustainable marine economy, combat plastic pollution and position the ocean at the centre of global development.

“We are deeply honored that the Crown Princess will continue her role as Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP. Having demonstrated unparalleled commitment to addressing some of the toughest challenges of our time, the Crown Princess is uniquely positioned to mobilize support for UNDP’s work around the world and inspire action toward a more sustainable future,” said Haoliang Xu, UNDP Acting Administrator.

The Crown Princess, whose Goodwill Ambassadorship extension is for two years, has a long history of steadfast support for sustainable development. From 2016 to 2019, she served as one of 17 global UN SDG Advocates, appointed by the UN Secretary-General to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As SDG Advocate Emerita, the Crown Princess continues to advocate for issues focused on sustainability, including the conservation and responsible use of the ocean and marine resources, such as through sustainable fisheries.
