Paris/New York - The Government of France is strengthening its support to UNDP’s regular “core” resources, with a 20% increase in its contribution compared to last year, reinforcing its commitment to multilateralism and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This voluntary contribution of US$13.06 million (over EUR 12 million) to the institutional budget is vital for UNDP's ability to respond with speed and agility to meet the needs of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and people living in fragile and conflict-affected settings. France's core investment in UNDP also supports the organization's efforts to deliver innovative and integrated development solutions to improve the lives of millions of people around the world. These solutions help strengthen poverty reduction, resilience, gender equality, democratic governance, the rule of law, and the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.

These thematic areas of work are central to UNDP's Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and aligned with the new French international development strategy. UNDP is committed to continue strengthening its partnership with France to tackle global challenges and respond to the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

As part of a close and strong partnership, France has also directly supported UNDP programmes with additional funding in 2023 – including mine action initiatives in Ukraine and the salvage operation of the decaying FSO-Safer supertanker in the Red Sea. UNDP and France are also working closely to advance the women, peace and security agenda and to accelerate the mobilization of sustainable finance solutions for people and planet in line with the SDGs.

The flexible support to UNDPs core resources by France and other partners is vital for UNDP's ability to continue delivering programmes effectively, efficiently and following the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
