Poland is contributing one million US dollars to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund (EVRF), through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The funds will enable the Government of the Republic of Moldova to ensure that energy compensation is provided to energy vulnerable households during the cold season.

"We thank our good Polish friends for their support when Moldova needs support and help the most. The energy crisis has been and remains to be a big challenge for us, but together with such partners and with such great support, we manage to overcome the crisis periods successfully year after year. Dziękuję, Polsko," said Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labor and Social Protection.

“We are grateful to Poland for its financial support to households in need to cover the energy expenses during the cold season. Together with the Government of Moldova and partners, UNDP will continue to support an equitable energy transition so that all people of the Republic of Moldova have access to affordable and reliable energy. Throughout the years, the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in mitigating energy poverty and enhancing household welfare. In 2023-2024, energy poverty has declined by 18% among local households, while compensations contributed to a 35% reduction in the beneficiaries' monetary poverty incidence,” mentioned Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova.

In the cold season November 2024 - March 2025, about 720,000 households, in which about 1 million 466 thousand people live, received energy compensation.

The Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund (EVRF) was created in 2022 by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with the support of the European Union, Slovakia and UNDP.

Since its launch, UNDP has facilitated the mobilization of US$62 million for the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Poland.
