Mental Health and Psychosocial Guide for Accompanying Families of Missing Persons in Libya

Mental Health and Psychosocial Guide for Accompanying Families of Missing Persons in Libya

February 13, 2026

This practical guide serves as a reference for mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) providers working with families of missing persons in Libya. It offers practical guidance and tools to accompany affected families through the different stages of search, identification, and coping with long-term grief.

The guide also promotes coordination between mental health and psychosocial services, legal and forensic services, and community-based support, ensuring a comprehensive response that respects the cultural context and the needs of families.

The guide was developed under the Missing Persons Project, jointly implemented by UNDP and UNSMIL, in support of relevant national efforts.
