Partnership with the Green Climate Fund 2025

June 24, 2025

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a critical partner in accelerating Kyrgyz Republic’s climate response. With GCF support, UNDP is working alongside the Government of Kyrgyzstan to strengthen climate resilience, implement national adaptation priorities, and deliver on global commitments under the Paris Agreement.

The Kyrgyz Republic remains one of Central Asia’s most vulnerable countries. Its mountainous terrain, reliance on climate-sensitive sectors, and growing frequency of natural disasters, up by 1.5 times over the past decade, are placing increasing pressure on people, ecosystems, and biodiversity.

Extreme climate events like heatwaves, avalanches, droughts, and mudflows already impact health and livelihoods. Through GCF financing and targeted technical support, the country is now charting a course toward long-term, systemic resilience.

From 2020 nearly USD 3.4 has been allocated to adapt to climate change, strengthen institutional capacities, improve access to climate finance, and close information and coordination gaps across vulnerable sectors.
