The Mentorship Program for Women and Girls in STEM is launched in Kyrgyzstan to prepare women for the future of work

December 5, 2023

Based on the UNDP report, “Needs Assessment of STEM Women in Kyrgyzstan” (2023), there is a need for mentorship support expressed by women in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. Initiated by the UNDP Kyrgyzstan, the Foundation “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative” has started the implementation of the project STEM4ALL x Mentoring Her within the framework of Digital x funded by the Government of Japan.

The STEM4ALL x Mentoring Her initiative in Kyrgyzstan aims to address the challenges faced by girls and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The STEM4ALL platform brings together digital innovations to create communities and networks that support educational and career success in STEM.

The objective of the project is to develop and implement a mentoring program designed for 300 mentees and 100 mentors, thereby contributing to the promotion of women's leadership in STEM fields. This initiative will not only develop the skills of future professionals, but will also create strong connections and maintain a work-life balance.

According to the World Economic Forum, more than 90% of future jobs will require digital skills. In Kyrgyzstan, gender stereotypes and limited access to resources mean that only 31.1% of STEM graduates are women. We are working to change this by providing girls and women with the necessary skills, admired role models, and strong support to excel in the future of work in STEM.
