The principle of gender equality goes beyond just words and requires concrete actions. This statement became the motto for the participants of a two-day training held by UNDP at the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Ministry is actively involved in the UNDP Global Certification Program to achieve gender equality for government agencies. Members of the Ministry's working body, including heads of committees and departments, participated in the training conducted by an international expert on public policy and management, Onorica Banciu.
During the training, participants learned about how OECD countries ensure equal opportunities for men and women and how the methods and practices of other countries can be applied in Kazakhstan. The session participants also learned how to use the “gender prism” in developing government policies, with particular attention paid to gender-oriented budgeting designed to help allocate resources more equitably. It was agreed that understanding gender equality issues, having the political will, and coordinating the work between different organizations are critical to successfully implementing public policies.
As a result of the training, a guide will be created for various departments of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will help them integrate gender aspects into their work.
The training at the Ministry of Culture and Information coincided with the approval of an action plan in the field of human rights and the rule of law by the President of Kazakhstan. This plan includes specific measures to support gender equality, combat domestic violence, and protect citizens' rights in court. The training was essential in forming a professional environment where respect for differences and equal rights for all is the foundation.
