The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov held a meeting with Ms. Katarzyna Wawiernia, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan.
Aidarbek Saparov noted that constructive and systematic cooperation has been established between the Ministry and UNDP within the framework of the Country Programme.
“It is important for us that national strategic priorities and sustainable development objectives are reflected in the Country Programme. We view this document as an instrument to strengthen partnership and to concentrate joint efforts on areas that promote sustainable economic growth, environmental balance, and social development of the country,”the Minister stated.
In turn, Ms. Katarzyna Wawiernia emphasized that enhancing the resilience and productivity of agriculture remains a priority for UNDP.
“Kazakhstan demonstrates steady growth and strategic development of its agricultural sector. At the same time, it is important that state support instruments contribute to preserving land productivity and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector,”underlined Ms. Katarzyna Wawiernia, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan.
Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and UNDP are implementing several joint initiatives.
In particular, UNDP is implementing a project to promote sustainable agricultural production systems and conserve ecosystems in Northern Kazakhstan. The project supports diversification of the national agro-industrial complex, including assistance in equipping the Kokshetau Experimental Production Farm with agricultural machinery to strengthen seed production of pulses and perennial grasses.
In cooperation with the Food and Contract Corporation, the long-term forward purchase mechanism for pulses (lentil) is being further implemented.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of the project on integrated management of marine and coastal resources of the Kazakhstani part of the Caspian Sea and adjacent territories. The initiative aims to establish a sustainable natural resource management system, conserve biodiversity, and promote the development of coastal areas.
Aidarbek Saparov expressed appreciation for the consistent support and partnership, noting that the results of ongoing projects should form the basis for their further institutionalization and scaling up across the regions of the country, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level.
