A hands-on workshop on innovative healthcare solutions took place at UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark on April 24-25, 2025, where UNDP facilitated immersive learning experiences for senior officials from Kazakhstan focused on digital transformation initiatives in health procurement systems, cold chain vaccine management, and Smart Facilities implementation.

The two-day workshop focused on three key digital transformation initiatives: health procurement systems, cold chain vaccine management, and the Smart Facilities solution for healthcare infrastructure. This practical approach aimed to facilitate sustainable knowledge transfer and support the implementation of digital health solutions in Kazakhstan.

The technical sessions provided in-depth information on UNDP's quality assurance frameworks for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products, highlighting the organization's capability to support countries in sourcing essential medical supplies that meet international standards. Participants learned about UNDP's procurement processes that emphasize transparency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with global best practices.

The visit included the demonstration of UNDP's Smart Facilities solution, which offers integrated approaches for creating energy-efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced healthcare facilities. The solution incorporates renewable energy, smart building management systems, and digital monitoring capabilities that can significantly reduce operational costs while enhancing service delivery.

The exchange also featured presentations on advanced Logistics Management Information Systems (LMIS) digital platforms supported by UNDP globally. These systems enable real-time tracking of medical supplies, enhance inventory management, and ensure the integrity of cold chain logistics for temperature-sensitive products like vaccines.

Digital tools and innovative procurement approaches are transforming healthcare delivery around the world. These solutions can help strengthen health systems and improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly in underserved areas.

UNDP's digital health portfolio encompasses a range of solutions designed to strengthen health systems through technology and innovation. These include digital health governance frameworks, telemedicine platforms, health information systems, and supply chain management tools that can be adapted to various country contexts.

This learning experience is designed to ensure the sustainability of national digital health initiatives through effective knowledge transfer. The workshop is one of many technical cooperation activities that UNDP conducts globally to build capacity and share expertise in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being and SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
