Today, the UNDP Representative to Kazakhstan, Katarzyna Wawiernia, met with the First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Umarov, to present her credentials at the Ministry and discuss the priority areas of long-standing development cooperation between the Government of Kazakhstan and UNDP.

The UNDP Resident Representative reiterated UNDP's commitment to support Kazakhstan in implementing the national priorities enshrined in the Kazakhstan 2050 long-term strategy, the 2025 strategic development plan and other key strategies and plans.

Mr. Umarov congratulated the Resident Representative on her appointment to such an important post and expressed hope for further strengthening of multifaceted cooperation through the UNDP Country Programme for 2021-2025. “Our country remains committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, and the principles of the Paris Agreement,” said Kairat Umarov.

Ms Wawiernia highly commended the comprehensive reforms initiated by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aimed at further democratisation, strengthening the rule of law, protecting human rights and inclusive economic growth, and reiterated UNDP’s readiness to contribute to national development priorities.

She noted the importance of the recently signed cost-sharing agreement on government co-financing of the UNDP Country Programme for 2021-2025. The agreement will make it possible to form a necessary pool of projects and the scope of technical assistance to support the regions and the Government's priority and long-term reforms. The allocated funds will be used for the development of the country's regions, including Abay, Zhetysu, Ulytau and Kyzylorda regions, focusing on strengthening local governance and creating opportunities for economic growth, with a view on vulnerable groups such as youth and women.
