Imagining Nusantara Capital City (IKN)
Imagining Nusantara Capital City (IKN)
January 22, 2025
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) aspires to becoming one of the world’s most sustainable cities, with a city plan centered on the concept of a forest city, achieved through development dominated by forest structures and open green spaces. However, the relocation of the capital has raised several concerns among the local communities, particularly regarding inclusivity, community involvement in the planning and development process, as well as its environmental impact.
In collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Kota Kita, UNDP Indonesia Accelerator Lab conducted a study using participatory data collection and Strategic Foresight to capture the aspirations of the local community regarding the Nusantara Capital City. The findings stress the importance of incorporating universal design principles in green open spaces, ensuring public areas that cater to traditional and cultural activities, and developing platforms for more inclusive community participation in the planning process.
