About the Project
The Management of Plastic Waste and Circular Interventions on Plastics in South, Southeast Asia and the Pacific is a three-year multi-country initiative supported by TCCF. It aims to strengthen plastic waste management systems and make the sector more inclusive and sustainable across ten countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam.
In Indonesia, the project aims to empower waste workers to lead and manage Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) systems. With targeted capacity building, infrastructure support, and sustainable economic opportunities, waste workers will be trained, and pilots will be rolled out across site locations. The project supports Indonesia’s national ambition to reduce marine plastic debris by 70% by 2025 and advance toward near-zero plastic pollution by 2040.

Commitment to GESI
The project is committed to promoting Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) by ensuring that women, waste workers, and vulnerable communities are actively involved and benefit from more inclusive and sustainable plastic waste management systems in Indonesia. Through community-based approaches, the project will support safer working conditions, strengthen skills and leadership opportunities, and improve access to livelihoods, training, and financial opportunities—especially for women and informal waste workers who are often underserved. By working closely with local communities, governments, civil society, and the private sector, the project aims to build a more equitable circular economy where everyone can contribute to and benefit from a cleaner and more sustainable future.
