UNDP Promotes Technical Retreat to Strengthen Coordination of Development Support in Guinea-Bissau
February 4, 2025

With the aim of strengthening Aid Coordination in Guinea-Bissau, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organised an impactful Aid Coordination Technical Retreat on Friday 31 January 2025. The event brought together technicians from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration, as well as international partners and other stakeholders.
The opening of the retreat was attended by the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System, Ms Genevieve Boutin, the UNDP Resident Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Ms Alessandra Casazza, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Ms Fatumata Jau, and the Secretary of State for Economy, Planning and Regional Integration, Mr Ambass Embalo. In their speeches, they emphasised the importance of aligning development aid with Guinea-Bissau's strategic priorities, with a view to having a sustainable impact on the country.
During the retreat, technicians from the ministries involved and the UNDP shared presentations and insights on the effective use of resources earmarked for development. The event provided a space for collaborative discussions and the exchange of global insights, fostering a constructive dialogue between participants.
After two days of intense debate and analysis, the technical retreat ended on 3 February 2025 with a fundamental commitment: the creation of a Development Assistance Coordination Unit. This new body will be responsible for promoting greater transparency and harmonised efforts in the management of international aid, ensuring that resources are efficiently directed towards the country's priority needs.
With this initiative, the UNDP is reinforcing its commitment to the sustainable development of Guinea-Bissau, boosting international co-operation to build a more prosperous future for the nation.
