“Never Again, in Practice: Reflections on Transitional Justice and Peace in The Gambia”
A Peacebuilding Spotlight Initiative report, “Never Again, in Practice: Transitional Justice and Peace in The Gambia”, examines the country’s transitional justice journey since 2017 and its contribution to peacebuilding, reconciliation and the rule of law. The holistic report integrates perspectives and evidence across all key stakeholders in the country by highlighting progress made in truth-seeking, accountability, reparations, and institutional reform, while identifying areas where further efforts areneeded to sustain public trust and advance the promise of “Never Again”.
Drawing on research, evidence, stakeholder consultations, and community perspectives from across The Gambia, the report captures key lessons from the transitional justice journey and highlights the importance of sustained national efforts to consolidate peace, justice, and reconciliation.
The Peacebuilding Impact Spotlight was prepared by the Peacebuilding Impact Hub of the United Nations Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO), with a sound management and oversight team led by the UN Resident Coordinator, Office of The President, Ministry of Justice and UNDP providing technical leadership as the main partner on transitional justice in The Gambia.
