Statement On UNDP/Ethiopia

March 9, 2021

UNDP’s position and work in Ethiopia is fully aligned with recent statements made by the UN Secretary-General and our sister humanitarian and human rights UN Agencies.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) does not comment on the content of internal documents.

However, by way of context:

UNDP regularly shares internal briefing notes related to our programme countries with senior UN officials for planning purposes. These internal briefing notes provide insight and analysis based on a variety of views and positions of stakeholders on the ground which may be cited, but do not constitute UNDP’s endorsement or official position on a particular issue.

In each case, any specific recommendations made in addition to the insight and analysis are always aligned and developed in coordination with the relevant UN entities and the UN Secretary-General’s position.

In Ethiopia, UNDP is a member of the UN Country team (UNCT). As such, we work under the overall coordination and leadership of the UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and in full co-operation with the UN Country Team to respond to the agreed urgent and longer-term needs of affected populations within the framework of the Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus.

UNDP – as part of the United Nations’ response -  is committed to supporting the people of Ethiopia in finding peaceful solutions to the conflict, respecting and fostering human rights, and helping people recover from the crisis.
