The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a functional commission of ECOSOC since 1946, is the principal global intergovernmental body focused on advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. Key to promoting women’s and girls’ rights, documenting the realities of their lives around the world, and shaping global standards for equality, CSW is at the forefront of guiding policies, reviewing progress, and supporting the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The 70th annual convening, CSW70, will take place in New York from 9 – 19 March 2026, addressing the priority theme: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and addressing structural barriers.” The session will also review progress on women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, in line with the agreed conclusions of the sixty-fifth session.
