Distinguished Journalists and Media Professionals,
It’s a real pleasure to welcome you to this training program on media coverage of cybersecurity.
We’re living in a time of rapid digital change.
Every day, new technologies reshape the way we live, work, and connect.
But as opportunities grow, so do the risks.
Cyber threats are becoming more complex — and more dangerous. They affect everything from personal data to national security.
That’s why your role as media professionals has never been more important.
You’re not just reporting on tech issues. You’re helping society make sense of them.
You translate technical jargon into stories people understand.
You spotlight threats that might otherwise go unnoticed. You shape how people think, act, and protect themselves online.
In today’s digital world, journalists are no longer on the sidelines. You’re on the frontlines.
And that’s the key message of this training: Media professionals are frontline defenders in the digital age.
90 media professionals from diverse outlets and backgrounds across Egypt will take part in this training.
This training has been developed by UNDP, Mideast Communication Systems, the Information and Decision Support Center, and the 30N Media and Consulting Group.
It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening digital resilience through smart, informed communication.
Over the next sessions, you’ll gain:
A deeper understanding of cybersecurity challenges,
The tools to report accurately and responsibly,
And new techniques to engage the public in safeguarding digital spaces.
You’ll also explore how misinformation, disinformation, and emerging technologies like deepfakes are challenging the very idea of truth.
These threats don’t just mislead — they undermine trust and social cohesion.
To support your work even further, I’m happy to announce that UNDP will also offer a dedicated course on “Misinformation and Disinformation for Media.”
At UNDP, we believe digital transformation must be inclusive, secure, and built on trust.
That’s why we’re investing in people — in your skills, your voice, and your impact.
I hope this training empowers you to tell the stories that matter, ask the tough questions, and help your audiences navigate the digital world with confidence.
Wishing you a productive session ahead.
Thank you for being here — and for all you do.
