Ms. Alessandra Roccasalvo Assumes Her Duties as UNDP Resident Representative in Djibouti

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Alessandra Roccasalvo as the new Resident Representative in Djibouti.

With over twenty years of international experience in sustainable development, inclusive governance, gender equality, and resilience, Ms. Roccasalvo brings both strategic and operational expertise to the country office.

Ms. Roccasalvo officially presented her credentials to His Excellency Mr. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on July 23, 2025, during a ceremony held in Djibouti City. She expressed her gratitude to the Government of Djibouti, particularly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), for their support of UNDP’s work and their contribution to the new Country Programme cycle (CPD 2025–2030). Under MAECI’s leadership, the process was conducted inclusively and aligned with national priorities, thanks to the collaboration of sectoral ministries, civil society, youth, women, the academic community, and development partners.

Ms. Roccasalvo emphasized her commitment to working closely with the government, stakeholders, and partners to support equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development in Djibouti.

She reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to collaborating with national authorities, partners, and citizens to address the country’s needs and promote a prosperous, just, and sustainable future.

Prior to her assignment in Djibouti, Ms. Roccasalvo served as UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan and held various positions within UNDP, including in Kosovo and Indonesia. She also worked in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General under the leadership of the Deputy Secretary-General. She has substantial experience in intersectional policy, inclusive development strategies, and the nexus between security and development.

Ms. Roccasalvo holds a degree in Development from the London School of Economics, as well as a Master’s degree in Economics and History from the University of Tübingen.
