Through Ordinary Eyes

Photographs of Everyday Life

Overview

Through Ordinary Eyes is a curated exhibition project initiated by the Technical Committee on Culture; an idea that came out through the Connecting Arts 2 event. The activity aims to present a collective portrait of Nicosia, featuring personal photographs contributed by over 100 Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot residents. These candid images, sourced from personal digital archives and media platforms, capture everyday moments—family, friendships, neighbourhood life and daily routines—through the eyes of non-professional photographers. The exhibition seeks to highlight the shared humanity and common experiences of Nicosia’s residents, intentionally focusing on authenticity and avoiding ideological or artistic interpretations. The main exhibition will display over 500 framed photographs, curated thematically to reflect the rhythms of daily life and foster a sense of connection across communities.

Objectives

  • To create a curated exhibition offering a collective portrait of Nicosia through personal photographs from both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot residents.
  • To foster collaboration and understanding by building an evolving archive that reflects the common lived experiences of both communities

Results
