Project Title
Seeds Cleaning, Selection and Packaging Centre
Overall Objective
To improve the management of locally produced cereal seeds
Output
  1. Seeds Cleaning, Selection and Packaging Centre established and operational
  2. PV System installed and operational
Location
Nicosia, Cyprus
Type of investment
  • Seeds Cleaning, Selection and Packaging Centre: Goods and Works
  • PV System: Installation and Works
Description of investment

As stated above, there are two outputs under this project. The first outputs divided in two segments:

  • The construction of a new warehouse of 300 m2 that will house the equipment and machinery.
  • The supply and installation of processing unit for the cleaning, selection and packaging of cereal seeds. The processing unit will have a capacity of 5 ton of cereal seeds per hour.

Under the second output, a 115 kW (AC) PV system was installed and connected to the network.

Intended beneficiary
Direct beneficiaries: Agriculture organisation at Margo/Comlekci farm

Indirect beneficiaries: Farmers living in the Turkish Cypriot community

Scope of works

There are currently no facilities in the Turkish Cypriot community with the required equipment to certify seeds in line with EU regulations that will ensure higher quality of seeds for local agricultural producers. The focus will be on local variety seeds developed specifically to the agro-climatic conditions of the island.

With the operation of the new plant, electricity consumption at the farm will increase resulting in higher operational costs. Part of this increase will be off set with the installation of the PV system.
