Scope of works

Science and innovation are important drivers of economic development. Schools in the Turkish Cypriot community lacked modern science laboratory equipment, limiting students' ability to conduct experiments. To address this, the EU launched a programme valued at approximately 4.4 million euros to equip primary and secondary schools with new laboratories, aiming to support education and scientific advancement in the community.

As part of this initiative, the EU organised a competition titled 'Going Further with Science', encouraging students to carry out innovative science experiments using the newly provided lab equipment. Winning schools were awarded new sports facilities.

Actions taken by UNDP
  1. Preparation of the technical specifications
The preparation of the technical specifications for the sport equipment and floor tiles were prepared by the end of November 2023.
  2. Procurement of goods and works
A first Request for Quotation (RFQ) was launched at the end of 2023 but it was unconclusive. Small modifications were made to the technical specifications and a new RFQ was successfully conducted from January 2024 until May 2024.

  3. Implementation
The contract was signed at the end of May 2024.
Installation of three schools (2 schools in Nicosia and one in Kyrenia) completed in September 2024.
Installation for fourth school (Fyllia/Serhatkoy) completed in February 2025.
