Description of investment

The intended works encompass:

  • Excavation works;
  • Laying of pipes (315 mm corrugated pipes);
  • Construction of manholes;
  • Filling and backfilling; and
  • Pumping Station.

In total, 1 km of main sewer pipes are being laid.

Indirect beneficiaries: citizens of Kioneli/Gonyeli

Scope of works

The northern part of the Kioneli/Gonyeli local community is still not fully covered by a sewerage network. In order to expand the coverage, a main sewer trunk has to be built to allow sewerage lines to be connected. It is a residential area, and the vast majority of houses/living units are not connected to the sewerage. They are using septage tanks for their wastewater which represents a financial burden for the inhabitants as well as represent an environmental risk for the discharge of the septage.

Actions taken by UNDP

  1. Preparation of the designs
    The preparation of the designs was drawn up by UNDP based on the designs prepared in 2017 for the Nicosia North Trunk Sewer project. The designs were finalised in February 2025.

  2. Procurement of works
    ITB expected to be launched in March 2026
    Procurement process expected to be completed by June 2026
  3. Implementation
    Expected contract signature: Beginning of July 2026
    Expected completion of works: November 2026
