Enhancing Resilience: A Methodological Approach to Coordinated Pest Management
Objectives
Pests are disrupting native flora and fauna causing ecological imbalances, health related issues and economic losses. Climate change exacerbates the situation by creating conditions favourable for pest proliferation, further threatening ecosystem resilience.
This project aims to support island-wide solutions to pest issues affecting citrus, pine, prickly pears and any other issues related to agriculture/forestry.
A team of four experts in agriculture and forestry (two Greek-speaking and two Turkish-speaking experts), who were selected through an Open Call for Experts, will implement the project. These experts will collaborate to create an assessment report on pests across the island, develop a pest management plan and organise information sessions, workshops and trainings on pest management.
The project will include:
- Assessment of the existing situation across the island in regard to agriculture and forestry related pests and other related topics (i.e., pests affecting citrus trees, pine, prickly pears and zucchinis as well as bee health-related issues).
- Site visits conducted by the experts across the island, , to study pests and diseases and identify the best countering practices.
- Development of a Comprehensive Pest Management Plan with suggested island-wide approaches for countering pests and diseases in agriculture/forestry.
- Public Outreach Activities (i.e., information sessions, workshops and trainings for farmers, experts, researchers and all interested stakeholders).
