Cool-Up Programme
UNDP is participating as a supporting partner in the CoolUp programme, which is a significant initiative supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) with a grant of €20 million. This initiative is implemented in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Türkiye and is led by Guidehouse Energy Germany GmbH. In 2024, the program was expanded to two additional countries, Morocco and Tunisia.
The CoolUp programme is designed to promote sustainable cooling solutions to mitigate the adverse impacts of rising cooling demands on the climate and the ozone layer and a critical aspect of the programme is the focus on developing sustainable cooling technologies in the region where market penetration remains low.
To address these challenges, the UNDP Chemicals and Waste Hub and its partners aim to enable market pull instruments (such as policy instruments and financial schemes) and technology push instruments (like showcasing new technologies) to increase demand for sustainable cooling products.
