Integrated Collaborative Approaches for Sustainable Tourism
The newly created Integrated Collaborative Approaches for Sustainable Tourism (iCOAST) programme will tackle sustainability challenges in the tourism sector. The funding will support sustainable tourism practices, the removal of harmful chemicals and waste from tourism supply chains and services, the protection and restoration of overused natural resources, the development of circular tourism practices, and the mobilization of private sector finance to support the transition to sustainable businesses.
iCOAST was approved with a total amount of almost US$ 95 million by the GEF and US$ 842 million co-financing involving seven implementing agencies: Inter-American Development Bank, EBRD, FAO, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO and WWF, in collaboration with UN Tourism, The Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and Minamata Convention on Mercury Secretariats and other partners to promote sustainable tourism practices in 14 countries.
UNDP is supporting three countries (Dominican Republic, Indonesia and Jamaica plus the global component) out of fourteen countries, worth US$ 27.2 million.
