Greening Supply Chains of Construction and Fashion Integrated Programme

The GEF-8 Integrated Programme on "Elimination of Hazardous Chemicals from Supply Chains" aims to address the significant environmental impacts of the fashion and construction sectors, which include land use, resource depletion, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. It marks the first attempt to eliminate hazardous chemicals from the construction and fashion value chains simultaneously, taking a holistic approach to shift production and consumption, while connecting these benefits with climate change and biodiversity benefits.

The programme’s objective is to promote transformational change in these industries by replacing resource-intensive processes and materials with more sustainable alternatives and creating more circular and transparent value chains. The programme will achieve these objectives through a value-chain approach that addresses the entire lifecycle of products, from design to reuse.

Additionally, the programme will contribute to circular design, collaborative value chains, and increased traceability, transparency, and accountability. UNDP is the implementing agency for Ecuador (Construction and Fashion), Mongolia (Fashion), and Peru (Fashion) with a combined value of US$ 13 million. The project is expected to initiate implementation in 2025.
