Financing Agrochemicals Reduction and Management
The GEF-7 funded global programme “Financing Agrochemicals Reduction and Management” (FARM) seeks to address the use of POPs pesticides in the agriculture sector through catalyzing a framework for investment in the sector aiming to detoxify the sector by eliminating the use of the most harmful inputs to food production systems.
Of the total GEF grant of US$ 37.441 million, UNDP is supporting two countries (Laos PDR and Ecuador) out of seven countries, worth US$ 8 million. In GEF-8, UNDP also received approval to lead the process for the development of the follow-up programme, FARM+, in 2024.
FARM+ is the second phase of the FARM program and was approved with a total amount of US$ 66 million by the GEF and $556 million co-financing. The program will be implemented by African Development Bank Group, FAO, UNDP, UNEP and UNIDO in very close coordination with FARM phase-I led by UNEP and the Global Green Knowledge Platform (GGKP). UNDP is supporting three countries (Costa Rica, Mexico and Nepal plus the global component) out of eight countries, worth US$ 27.4 million.
