The Vayots Dzor Regional State College Students in the IT Lab

UNDP in Armenia

A newly established Information Technology (IT) laboratory opened its doors to the students of the Vayots Dzor Regional State College, marking a significant milestone in advancing digital learning and youth employability in Armenia’s regions.

The initiative was implemented under the UNDP “Youth Employment” Project, which funded the rehabilitation of the lab premises, the procurement of modern IT equipment, as well as educational furniture. The upgraded facility provides a modern, comfortable, and functional environment for both teaching and learning.

The new IT lab benefits students at the college, equipping them with essential digital skills that are increasingly vital in today’s job market. Beyond serving current students, the lab will also be accessible to adults through short-term IT courses, creating new opportunities for lifelong learning (LLL) and ensuring broader access to digital education in the Vayots Dzor region. The initiative will also enable the college to generate additional income to sustain further educational improvements and development initiatives.

This is the tenth IT lab established by the UNDP “Youth Employment” Project across Armenia’s four target regions (Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, and Syunik marzes), aligning with the country’s national digital agenda, which prioritizes technology integration in education and the development of a skilled, future-ready workforce. Each lab contributes to strengthening the digital infrastructure of vocational education and training (VET) institutions, advancing innovation, and fostering a digital, more inclusive, and forward-looking educational environment.

“UNDP has been a long-standing partner of the college since 2008, investing significantly in the institution’s infrastructure modernization, capacity development, and innovation-driven education”, said Ms. Karine Simonyan, “Youth Employment” Project Manager. “Digital competencies are no longer optional-they are essential for young people to succeed in the labor market and modern economy,” added Ms. Simonyan during her visit to the college.

The college’s director expressed gratitude for UNDP’s continued partnership, noting that the new IT lab will significantly enhance the learning experience, support innovation, and prepare both youth and adults for emerging opportunities in the digital economy.

Through initiatives like these, UNDP continues to empower young peoplewith the skills they need to succeed in the modern economy, bridging the digital divide between rural and urban areas and creating pathways for inclusive development and a brighter future.
