Ms. Ivana Živković, United Nations Assistant Secretary‑General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC), will visit Armenia on 4 May at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia to participate in the Yerevan Dialogue 2026 International Forum.
During her first day of the visit to Armenia, Ms. Ivana Živković, accompanied by Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, visited UNDP project sites in Ararat region.
Within the framework of the UNDP “Improving Water Reservoir Management Capabilities for Climate Risk Resilience” project, funded by the Government of Japan, Ms. Ivana Živković, together with Mr. Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the MTAI Water Committee, visited the Azat Reservoir. It is one of the country’s most important hydrotechnical structures and holds strategic significance both for water resources management and for the safety of communities located in the inundation zone. It requires continuous monitoring and detailed risk management. To this end, modern monitoring equipment has been installed at the reservoir, along with upgraded meteorological and hydrological observation tools, warning siren systems, and photovoltaic power stations. In addition, engineering-geological and geophysical studies have been carried out, enabling more effective identification, analysis, and management of potential risks. The project’s direct beneficiaries include not only the state and local self-government bodies, but also approximately 167,000 residents living in the inundation zone. Moreover, within the framework of the project, a digital weather forecasting and visualization system has been installed, which already provides more accurate and detailed digital forecasts for all settlements across Armenia.
UNDP, with funding from the Government of Japan, renovated 10 ambulatories and 10 shelters across the country, easing pressure on local services in the regions. Together with head of Masis community, Mr. Norayr Hakobyan, Ms. Ivana Živković, visited Ayntap, one of the largest settlements of Masis community, Ararat region, where a newly renovated ambulatory now serves nearly 9,000 people, including 373 refugees and 714 people with disabilities, with modern facilities, new equipment, and a 10kW solar power system cutting energy costs by up to 90%—more savings, more essential care.
