Minister of Finance and UN Assistant Secretary-General Discuss Reforms Implemented in Tax Sector

As part of his working visit to the US, RA Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan met with UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Deputy Administrator, Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS Ivana Živković.

As reported by the Ministry of Finance, during the meeting, the parties discussed the main directions of effective cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), emphasizing the importance of reforms implemented in the tax sector, in particular.

Minister Hovhannisyan, in particular, noted that in-depth approaches to Armenia's tax policy are currently being reviewed and discussed, as well as new possible amendments to the Tax Code, adding that these topics may be the main directions of future cooperation with the UN.

Then, Minister Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of developing institutional capacities, including the key professional skills of representatives of the state system, noting that there are still special skills that need to be developed and that they are in the focus of the RA government's attention.

Ivana Živković noted that a strategic document on bilateral cooperation with Armenia is currently under discussion, which is intended to clearly include the main directions of cooperation. 

The Minister emphasized, in particular, the importance of addressing the main needs that are in the focus of Armenia according to that document. 

He also touched upon the strategy for public administration reforms, the implementation of which is one of the priorities of the RA government, therefore it is also important to reflect its individual components in the strategic document on bilateral cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue to be consistent in addressing the issues discussed during the meeting.
