UNDP in Argentina attended the 2026 SCALA Regional Workshop in Palmira, Colombia.
Between May 14 and 16, the SCALA 2026 Regional Workshop for Latin America was held in Palmira, Colombia. The event provided a platform for technical exchange and regional coordination aimed at strengthening the implementation of actions to enhance resilience in agriculture and land use.
The workshop brought together representatives from governments, international organizations, and national SCALA programme teams, with the participation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT in spanish), and local government authorities.
Nahuel Pugliese, Environment and Sustainable Development Officer, attended in representation of UNDP in Argentina together with other partners involved in SCALA implementation, including CREA and AAPRESID.
The event took place at the International Center of Tropical Agriculture (CIAT in spanish).
The workshop enabled participants to share experiences, practices, and results achieved across participating countries, while also identifying opportunities for collaboration during the programme’s final phase.
Discussions focused on sustainable soil and water resource management, nature-based solutions, resilient livestock systems, and financing mechanisms for these initiatives. Activities also included working sessions, presentations, and field visits.
The outcomes of the workshop will help shape the final phase of the SCALA Programme, which will continue promoting high-impact actions to strengthen the transformation and resilience of agricultural systems across the region.
What is the SCALA Programme?
The Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture (SCALA) Programme is a global initiative jointly implemented by UNDP and FAO to strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable land use in agricultural systems. Launched in 2020 and funded by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), the programme supports countries in integrating climate action into agricultural policies by linking adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development efforts.
In Argentina, the programme focuses particularly on the Pampas region and aims to scale up innovative, low-carbon production practices by generating technical evidence, strengthening institutional capacities, and fostering the participation of both public and private stakeholders.
