¿What is UNDP? 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead UN agency on international development. We operate in more than 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality.

Our work focuses on three areas: inclusive development, democratic governance, and environment and sustainable development, with a strong focus on gender equality. 

While we operate every day supporting comprehensive solutions based on national development priorities, we focus on sustainable finance, strategic innovation, and digital transition as catalysts for change and with a resolute vision for the future.

We support countries to develop and implement policies, foster partnerships, strengthen institutional capacities at all territorial levels, and mobilize resources to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind.

¿What do we do in Argentina?

In Argentina, we have been working for almost 40 years with the three levels of government throughout the country, with the executive, the judicial and legislative branches, civil society and the private sector, generating positive impacts on development and strengthening human and institutional capacities. 

Our operations are based on the framework of the Basic Agreement signed with Argentina in 1985 as well as on strategic plans formulated in close cooperation with the competent authorities, which result in specific projects. Our main counterpart is the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we work in coordination with other UN agencies, funds and programmes in the country.

We operate through voluntary contributions from the international community, the Argentine State, and UNDP's own funds, ensuring the highest standards of transparency and efficiency.

Our Pillars of Action in Argentina

1.    We support policies and programmes in food security, employment, quality basic services, health, education, sport, and youth. 

2.    We promote the fair transition towards a productive integral development, sustainable management of chemicals and waste, and responsible production and consumption.

3.    We promote the preservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, the generation of renewable energy, disaster resilience, and the fight against climate change.

4.    We contribute to the modernization of the state, access to information, citizen participation, access to justice, and the promotion of human rights. 

5.    We work against organized crime and corruption, by strengthening institutions based on transparency.

6.    We uphold gender equality and diversities as a cross-cutting principle in all our initiatives. We are dedicated to promoting equality and eliminating inequalities.

7.    We invest in the territory, strengthening provincial and municipal capacities and local community actions, with a federal and inclusive perspective.

8.    We promote innovation, digitalization and financing for the achievement of sustainable development.

We know how to work with others who have different ways and origins, capitalizing the best of that diversity. We have extensive experience in collaborative work with a wide range of partners and counterparts, including public and governmental entities, civil society, the private sector, academia, and international cooperation organizations.
