UNDP, Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank to take empowerment further & tackle financial exclusion

UNDP and the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB) have signed an understanding to complement efforts in promoting the empowerment of women, youths and persons with disabilities.

The agreement will see the two organisations cooperating on areas of mutual concern, relating to the achievement of gender equality and human rights.

Prior to the signing, UNDP, in collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe, provided technical and financial support towards the establishment of the ZWMB. In addition, ZWMB is collaborating with UNDP to implement the Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls.

Building on this previous support, the two organisations will expand focus to the following areas:

  • Financial literacy, access to finance and related products, entrepreneurial skills for economic empowerment sustainable livelihoods and social protection
  • Financial advisory services & skills to nurture commercially viable ventures
  • Facilitate linkages to national, regional and international markets
  • Strengthening of policies focusing on gender, human rights including disability rights, environment, labour, and climate change in line with global standards.
