Meet the top ten from the #YouthConnektZim Virtual Start-Up Tour Bus

Last month, young people from all over Zimbabwe were invited to submit proposals of products or services they have developed which are being used to mitigate and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Almost 200 applications were received from all over the country for various businesses including COVID19 apps, Whatsapp Bots, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), informative animated videos and e-learning platforms. Applications were reviewed by a panel of experts including the representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to ensure that the products or services selected were viable for the market. The ten finalists are listed below:

A renewable energy project developer that specialises in clean energy access systems in Sub Sharan Africa

Has produced ebuild263,  a hub for clients building homes and businesses

Respect Musiyiwa

Africa Start-Up Academy

An online learning platform.

Kudakwashe Mlambo

Digital Kiota

An online education content library that enables users to access educational content, onboard teachers and watch educational videos.

Arthur Mataruse

Nafuna TV

Animated explainer videos to spread awareness opf the effects of coronavirus.

Elton Mudariki

Foot operated handwashing facility. to combat corona virus

Brent Takunda


An online platform which allows doctor consultations and has an online pharmacy store.


A web- based platform that connects all COVID-19 stakeholders to health services. such as screening, tracing and processing

Tafadzwa Chingarira


Contract tracing application.

The Youth Connekt Start-Up Tour Bus initiative is in its second year with this being the first year it has gone virtual. Youth Connekt Zimbabwe is being implemented through a partnership which is led bY the Ministry of Youth Arts and Recreation (MoYSAR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Zimbabwe.
