In partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe and the University of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Zimbabwe brought the Zimbabwe AI and Innovation Week 2024, a groundbreaking event under the theme “Reimagining the Future: AI and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Zimbabwe.”
This week-long celebration of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation for Zimbabwe’s development featured Sophia the Humanoid Robot.
The first robot of her kind to visit Zimbabwe, Sophia is a global icon of artificial intelligence, known for her human-like interaction, thought-provoking speeches, and her ability to inspire a transformative vision for the future of AI.
Sophia the Robot:
A Global Icon Sophia, created by Hanson Robotics, is the world’s first robot to receive citizenship and a United Nations Innovation Champion. With her advanced AI, Sophia engages in natural conversations, delivers inspiring addresses, and fosters discussions on ethics, sustainability, and the role of technology in society. She has graced global stages such as the United Nations General Assembly and the G20 Summit and appeared on renowned media platforms like Good Morning Britain and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Sophia’s presence in Zimbabwe inspired youth, policymakers, and innovators to embrace AI as a catalyst for development. Sophia’s visit represents Zimbabwe’s commitment to harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution for inclusive growth.
